Blitz Weeks Bring Habitat Recipients Closer to Home

Oconee County Habitat for Humanity (OCHFH) committed to building five houses this year. Our all-volunteer (and dedicated) construction volunteers are at the job site ensuring we meet that goal several days a week. This spring, their efforts were given a boost when we

were able to conduct two “Blitz Weeks” at our Eastpointe Development.

In March, college students from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington spent

their Spring Break in Oconee County serving our community. While other college

students head to beaches, this crew of charitable souls helped us accelerate the

creation of homes for our program participants.

In May, volunteers from Utica Baptist Church and Welcome Wesleyan Church showed

up for a week-long blitz. The goal of completely framing a house was accomplished.

While that may not be unexpected on a professional construction site, watching a site

go from just a foundation to a complete skeleton of a house over a couple of days with

all-volunteer labor is something to behold.

Many thanks go out to the Construction Committee for coordinating these efforts. In

addition, we thank the many OCHFH volunteers who provided lunch or supported the

projects.

Most importantly we thank the volunteers from Wilmington and our local churches for

the gracious gift of their time and skills.
