OCHFH Christmas Tree Wins First Place
For the 13 th year, Duke Energy hosted their annual Festival of Trees display at The World of Energy. This event highlighted 23 trees decorated by local non-profits and civic groups. Everyone who viewed the trees got a chance to vote for their favorites. When the nearly 300 votes were tabulated, Oconee County Habitat for Humanity was awarded first prize and a donation of $2500 for the organization.
Making victory even more special, the tree was decorated by Jessica Owens and her children. Jessica is Habitat Homeowner and a testament to the power of OCHFH to help those in need in our community.
“Habitat has done so much for us over the years that we try to give back when we can. We’ve decorated a Christmas tree for Duke Energy for the last several years and we’re just happy to have won something to give back to Habitat,” according to Ms. Owens.
OCHFH Vice President Brandon Grace said, “[Jessica] is a perfect example of how someone can be in a position where they need the help of an organization like ours and that it can be a steppingstone to a lot of success in their life and that’s what we want. We want sustainable, new lives for our homeowners. She’s a great example, and also a wonderful person for giving back to the organization.”
